Born in Greenwich Village, New York.
Pioneer of jazz rock or fusion.
His debut album FLUTE FEVER (Columbia, 1964) is considered one of the finest jazz flute recordings
ever.

A Real Flute Player
Flute was his only and primary
instrument; i.e. he did not play it as a
doubling instrument.
Jeremy came from a talented family of artists and academics—including his father, cartoonist William Steig (the New Yorker and Shrek!); his mother, Liza, a brilliant painter; and his aunt, anthropologist Margaret Mead.
Jeremy's artistry was not limited to music. He also drew the art for the covers of the LPs he made with major labels.
